Its official, summer is upon us. Looking for something fun and different to do this summer? Austin is known for its great array of local businesses, and Austin IBIZ Districts each have a unique flair. Stay local this summer and experience Austin IBIZ Districts.
Each week, we will present a new IBIZ District for you to explore, so grab the kids, and your walking shoes and hit the streets. Don’t forget to capture your memories and tag us on Instagram at @AustinIBIZ
First up is the North Drag IBIZ District. This is one of our favorite culinary districts with over 20 locally owned restaurants packed into just four blocks. We invite you to take a culinary cruise, sampling a dish from each restaurant. Make sure to save room for dessert because there are just too many tasty treats to choose just one. For a full list of North Drag restaurants, check out the district map. Our top picks:
Black’s BBQ – because who doesn’t love award winning BBQ. Y’all are in Texas after all.
Trudy’s – famous for their Mexican martinis, and we suggest trying their stuffed avocados too.
Hopfields– a beautiful blend of French inspired fare and craft beer. Our favorite is their Moules Frites, aka white wine mussels.
Polkadots Bakery– with a daily rotation of cupcakes, there is certain to be a new favorite every day. We love the Strawberry Shortcake.
Now that you’re stuffed, it’s time to get pampered. Stop into one of the districts several salons for an afternoon of pampering. We recommend Salon O for a deep tissue massage and a pedicure. It’s the perfect way to relax in that food coma. With four salons within 4 blocks of each other, there is surely the perfect place for you to relax.
Ready for some shopping? The district has some great boutiques such as The Burlap Bag where everything is handmade. Perhaps you would prefer to browse independent books at Malvern Books or vinyl at Antone’s Records? This is just a peek at the cool boutiques in the district. While you are browsing the district, check out some of the fantastic street art. Murals line every nook and cranny, including the alleyways, so make sure to take some time and explore local art.
Feeling revitalized? Ready for some entertainment? Head on over to Spiderhouse Cafe and Ballroom to people watch and catch one of their nightly activities or shows. They host everything from Geeks Who Drink, to poetry and live music to burlesque shows, and everything in between. For a full list of their events, check out their do512 page.
The North Drag IBIZ District is perfect for an afternoon of browsing, and evening of food and entertainment, or just a great place to catch up with friends. Remember for every $1 you spend at a locally owned business, 45 cents stays here in Austin, which is three times more than if you shop at chain stores. Show your Austin love all summer long and make a pledge to support your independents.
