Locally owned businesses in the IBIZ Districts create the culture and vibe that makes Austin, Austin. Each District is special in its own way, with a common thread of renowned dining, shopping, services, music and nightlife scenes. Created by the non-profit Austin Independent Business Alliance in 2004, the nationally recognized, award-winning IBIZ Districts program supports and promotes neighborhood business districts throughout Austin where 75% of the businesses are locally owned. Whether you’re looking for local art, vintage finds, watering holes, familiar faces, or exploring new treasures – IBIZ Districts are Austin’s favorite destinations!

MERCHANT INFO:

Austin by Austin (AXA), a new showcase of local businesses and creatives during SXSW! Visit AustinChronicle.com/AXA for more info.

Co-sponsored by the Austin Chronicle and the Austin Independent Business Alliance (AIBA), AXA kicks off Saturday, March 11, 2017 on the first Saturday of SXSW. Locally owned businesses all over Austin will host creative events and art displays throughout the full week of SXSW. Austin Independent Business Alliance members who showcase local artists, musicians, or creatives at their business will be featured in free listings in a special section in the Austin Chronicle’s expanded SXSW coverage, online and in other promotion efforts by AIBA.

Here are some examples of ways to participate in Austin By Austin:

A boot store could do a display of historic boots made in Texas.
A book store could display books by Austinites or Austin poets’ small press publications.
A comic store could feature home grown comic books.
A hair salon could feature photos of musician clients modeling hair cuts.
A restaurant could feature local painters work on their walls.

Others can display art by musicians, art by filmmakers, art by artists – or even local tech or other innovative products or services. The event or exhibit can be new work or retrospective. I know many of you already do this in your own way, and we’re glad to help you develop a great event or exhibit for Austin By Austin. Contact [email protected] for assistance.
